Great Days of Service
Sharing God .……….
………Serving Others
April 16 - 17
April 23 - 24
Great Days of Service is a faith‑based association of Irving congregations which are united in serving God and community by renewing Irving neighborhoods and aiding Irving homeowners in the restoration of their properties. GDS' first campaign in 2002 focused on Grauwyler Heights, a neighborhood that is proactive about its renewal and reaches out in a caring and community spirit.
In 2005 Great Days of Service became a division of Vision Impact, an Irving faith-based 501(c) (3) (non-profit) origination. Vision Impact builds affordable homes.
Executive Director of Vision Impact Don Romer says, "This is a great way to combine two organizations with similar goals. We keep the interdenominational group of Irving churches working with volunteers, while providing a year-round organization and contact point."
Since the inception, the GDS has helped over 150 homeowners. Various churches and affiliated organizations are involved, with over $51,000 in private contributions raised. The 2009 mission worked on 31 projects located in various areas of Irving. The GDS project works closely with the City of Irving and local churches for project identification.
